Snoring has been an age old problem for many people, as a result of which various surgeries have evolved to stop this problem. Even though there could be side effects there are quite a number of people who undergo this operation. ‘Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty ‘is a method of removing tissues from the nasal cavity at the back of the throat. These surgeries are subject to side effects. In removing these tissues the airway in the throat reduces causing breathing problems. Due to this, various patients suffer from sleep apnea because of the reduction of the passageway in the throat.

Radiofrequency is another process to tackle this problem. In this treatment, a certain amount of heat and radiofrequency waves are applied on the tissues behind the throat which causes scarring of the tissue. This results in the throat stiffening up. This treatment is effective but totally does not help in eliminating snoring. This treatment can be done less than an hour.

Another method is called The Pillar Procedure in which three strips of fibre are put in the palate. An operation is conducted in less than an hour and the palate in the throat stiffens up which helps in reducing snoring.

It has been reported that individuals undergoing operations for chronic snoring problems are at a lower risk of a heart attack. Other ways like reducing the base of the tongue and several other ways to move the tongue base forward can also be opted for if you are looking to reduce your snoring habits.
